Four hours later, after pushing myself hard on some cross-country routes and a few black runs, I arrived back at the cabin. The fresh air combined with focusing on enjoying the slopes and scenery had put me in a more balanced mood. It was only when I got into the shower and felt the cool spray on my body that my thoughts drifted back to Mike again. I desperately wanted to see him but stupidly I hadn’t exchanged numbers and had no way of contacting him. Not without some kind of stalking anyway. Pulling on some black leggings and my favorite over-sized knit sweater, I settled back on the couch nursing a coffee. I alternated between trying to come up with some ideas, and fighting the heckling voice telling me to drop it, and that I was crazy.

A knock at the door startled and annoyed me. An idea had almost crystallized and now it had evaporated. I jogged across the room, frowning, still half lost in my thoughts. When I opened the door my legs went weak and I stood frozen in shock. “Mike?! You came back.”

“I never left,” he said darkly.

My mind struggled to process the fact of him standing there. “Did you forget something? Won’t you miss your flight?”

“I don’t care about missing my flight. But seeing you drive away earlier, I knew right then I couldn’t bear missing you .” I looked at him dreamily, my eyes wide, heat spreading through my body despite the cold draught blowing in from outside. “The only thing I forgot was to make an ass of myself and hit on you.” He flashed a charming smile my way, his eyes twinkling mischievously. Then an element of uncertainty crept into his voice as he went on. “I thought about it many times yesterday, but I didn’t want to risk you regretting helping me after everything you did for me.”

I stared deep into his rich brown eyes and he searched mine for an answer.

“I know I’m young,” he continued, “and impulsive, but I felt something between us. When I hugged you it didn’t feel like goodbye. Does that sound…”

My heart soared. “So hit on me,” I said, before he could finish, my voice thick with desire. I stepped forward and gripped his shirt, going up on tiptoes, turning my face up to his. For a moment he stared down hungrily at me, then leaned down and pressed his lips to mine. As our tongues danced greedily together, we grappled blindly at each others clothes and then my feet left the floor as Mike scooped me up easily. I wrapped my legs around him, eyes still closed as he walked us straight through the cabin. By the time the door blew shut on its own, Mike had carried me halfway to my bedroom.
